Stuff you are into: January edition
I am doing something a bit different this week.
A couple days back, I put out a call asking my friends to send me things that they are currently into. My friends are all really interesting people, so I figure that what they are into could be things that you could be into as well. I’ve also included some recs from my coworkers. Here’s what people said (lightly edited by me)!
📺 Watch
Terrace House (Netflix) - “Entertaining and a great view into Japanese culture. I recommend the ‘opening new doors” season.’ - Jmon
The Circle (Netflix) - “The basic concept behind it is a reality show where the contestants communicate exclusively through online profiles and chat, then vote each other off based on their perception of each other online. Some of them are authentic, and others hardcore catfish with fake profile photos and online personas. As someone who made an effort to delete primary social media apps like Instagram and Twitter, I find it interesting to see how the interactions play out solely based off of how they choose to portray themselves online. 🤷♀️” - Kate
Curb Your Enthusiasm - Amna
Don’t Fuck With Cats (Netflix) - “It’s amazing that Netflix can take an old news story and transform it into a gripping show” - Makan (+1 from Emily)
🎧 Listen
Planet Money (Episode 967: Escheat Show) - (paraphrasing) “Really interesting episode that taught me that we all might have money that the government is holding for us. And who doesn’t want ‘free' money?” - Emily (Editor’s note: I checked and I had ~$50 that was owed to me but the process to claim it is a pain in the ass)
Igor by Tylor the Creator & When I Get Home by Solange - Amna
🎲 Fun
Dice Throne (board game) - “A quick and fun board game that allows you to play with different characters (like a RPG). Fun to play with both kids and adults” - Jessica
📚 Read
Nora Ephron’s essays - Amna
The Dog Stars (fiction), America's Forgotten Pandemic: The Influenza of 1918 (non-fiction) - “Seems especially appropriate these days. Both books are about a flu pandemic; one is real, one is not.” - Rosie
🧘 Life
Trader Joe’s Frozen Chocolate Croissants - “These are better than most fresh croissants and super easy to make at home” - me
Running - Amna
Yin yoga - “Basically group stretching where you hold each pose (stretch) for 5 mins. Super relaxing, really good for flexibility, very meditative.” - Jmon
Spatial optimization - “The art & science of moving furniture around, optimizing for sun” - Susie
🌵 Other
Laneige lip balm - Amna
Slip small scrunchies - Amna
Igloos - “I want to build one and camp in it. I know, weird flex (but ok right?)” - Jmon
Since this is the first post of this type, let me know if you like it or hate it. Next week, we will go back to the regular product stuff.
